Spotlight: Deaf Seniors of America
The 15th biennial Deaf Seniors of America conference is this week in Seattle, Washington. Hundreds of Gallaudet alumni are in attendance. Tonight, Gallaudet will host a Sweet Re-Treat at the conference hotel. President Cordano, Alumni Relations and Gallaudet University Alumni Association executive director Sam Sonnenstrahl, ’79 & G-’84, University Communications executive director Brandi Rarus, and others will provide updates about the university and all the exciting things that are happening on campus and in the community!
Changing the Game!
We are gearing up for President Cordano’s Welcome Home address on Wednesday, September 18! The theme of this year’s address is Changing the Game. Next week, there will be a scavenger hunt. On the morning of “game day,” we’ll have an employee appreciation pancake breakfast at various locations on campus. President Cordano’s presentation will be from noon to 1 p.m. in Elstad Auditorium, and will be streamed via Facebook Live. During table-top and Facebook Live discussions the same afternoon, you will have the opportunity to provide input about our proposed ten-year vision. For more information, watch your email, our social media platforms, and campus signage. #HomeRunGU
Shared governance groups begin their work
Shared governance is the hallmark of a university. The University Council met yesterday, and will meet regularly throughout the year. The Faculty Senate will hold its first meeting of the year on Monday, September 9; the Gallaudet Staff Council met on August 27 and is meeting again on Tuesday, September 10; and the Student Body Government and the Graduate Student Association have already begun their work on behalf of our student body. Working together, we accomplish so much more! #TeamGallaudet
Hurricane Dorian
We at Gallaudet are watching Hurricane Dorian as it heads up the southeastern coast. Dorian, one of the largest Atlantic storms in recent memory, has caused massive destruction and loss of life in the Bahamas. It is sending tropical storm and hurricane-force winds over South Carolina, North Carolina, and southern Virginia, bringing heavy rain and causing widespread flooding and power outages. Watch local and national media for updates, and for information on how you can support people who are affected by this weather event. Let us at Gallaudet reach out and support those in the affected areas.
