Wrapping up our WFD coverage
We have been reporting on the XVIII World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf since mid-July. The event, held in Paris, was historic on many levels. Our own Joseph Murray, a professor in the Department of American Sign Language and Deaf Studies, was elected WFD president, and WFD and Gallaudet entered into a cooperative agreement. Let us share with you this photograph of Gallaudet community members at the WFD Gala held on Saturday evening, July 27. We are already looking forward to the next Congress in 2023 in the Republic of Korea!
Scholar-athlete Hannah Neild advances in NCAA Woman of the Year process
Hannah Neild, a senior education major and three-sport athlete from New Hampshire, is one of 148 conference-level nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. This honor “recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.” NCAA will narrow the field to 30 candidates in early September and nine candidates in late September. The winner will be announced on October 20 at a ceremony in Indianapolis. At Gallaudet, Hannah played soccer, basketball, and softball. We congratulate Hannah and wish her well in the competition!
