The G files: The Tree. The story about the oak tree that was used to be in the spot where the statue of Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Alice Cogswell currently is located on the campus. Daniel Chester French was the sculptor for the statue but before he accepts the contract, he made a concession that he would pick the spot where the statue will be. President Edward Miner Gallaudet was hesitant to agree to the demand. However, the oak tree was struck down by the lightning so it could be considered as an act of God.
