Kimberly: We are excited to announce that beginning this fall semester, Bison Center for Life Coaching (BCLC) will offer remote life coaching services through videophone or Zoom. Joshua: To help you become more familiar with services from Bison Center for Life Coaching, here is some important information.
Visual Description: Kimberly shares information. The background wall is light blue. She is wearing a black top and she is sitting on a chair with a blue and white swirl pattern.
1. The clinical staff from CAPS received life coaching training through
National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE). They will be
working to become credentialed as Board Certified Coaches (BCC). It is
important to understand that while the staff are trained mental health
clinicians, they will not provide counseling or psychotherapy. If the coach or
you as a client recognize that you would benefit from counseling/therapy, the
coach will refer you to the appropriate resources.
2. Life coaching is short-term, present-focused, goal-directed support to
address specific concerns related to managing a student’s personal and
professional life and academics. In life coaching, the client and the coach are equal partners. In each meeting, the client sets the agenda, while the coach listens and shares their observations and questions. This process helps the client gain clarity to take action to be able to accomplish their goals.
3: The first step in obtaining life coaching services is to email
lifecoach@gallaudet.edu or call us Video Phone: 202-250-2300. Voice: 202-
651-6080. We will email you a Life Coaching Request Form. When we
receive the completed form, you will be assigned to a Life Coach that best
matches your needs. Your Life Coach will send you an email to schedule the
first appointment. When demand for coaching services is high, you may be
placed on a waiting list. If this happens, BCLC will let you know through
email.
Visual Description: Joshua shares his information. The background shows light grey curtain. He is wearing a medium blue long sleeve shirt.
4. There are CAPS mental health clinicians available for crisis and emergency services, remotely. If you feel you are experiencing a crisis situation (e.g. having thoughts of hurting yourself, feeling out of control, having recently received shocking news), a mental health clinician can meet with you to support you during this situation and to help refer you for appropriate treatment. To access emergency services, please contact CAPS. Our business hours are Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm ET, Video Phone: 202-250-2300. Voice: 202-651-6080. After 5pm or on weekends, please contact DPS. You may email them at dps@gallaudet.edu or call/text 202-651-5555.
5. Due to licensing laws throughout the country, counseling and psychological services generally cannot be provided across state lines. Therefore, CAPS will not be able to provide regular counseling sessions this fall semester. If you are interested in referrals for counseling services, please contact CAPS@gallaudet.edu
