Why am I interested in becoming the GSC Chair?
GSC has grown so much in the past couple of years that it’s becoming more recognized as a potent force in shared governance at Gallaudet and Clerc Center. We worked from inside out, focusing on building a robust team. From there, we succeeded in understanding our roles better, developing relationships with our constituents, and strengthening GSC’s role in the community. Not only that, we formed intentional relationships across the board, starting with the staff members, other governing bodies, various university committees, the Executive Team, President Cordano, and the Board of Trustees. Because we are starting to grow out of the infantile stage and more into the intentional stage, I’m not ready to end my term on June 30, 2020. There is so much work to do to ensure GSC’s advancement to the inclusive stage and it is my desire to lead the team and guarantee the advancement process.
What skills and strategies do I possess that are specific to carrying out duties as Chair?
As an adaptive and thriving leader, I am intentional and compassionate about inspiring shared vision, upholding a sense of commitment and purpose, and fostering growth within the team and the community. Through shared collective organizational consciousness and use of knowledge gathered by the team, we will form proactive responses that align with GSC’s values, mission, vision, and commitments.
What are my ideas and goals for the next year if elected as GSC Chair?
I believe that GSC should be the epicenter of growth and information sharing for all staff members at Gallaudet and Clerc Center; therefore, my goals are to:
- Form intentional relationships
Finalize and implement GSC’s values, mission, vision, and commitments
Share pertinent information and welcome feedback
Create more opportunities for professional mobility and growth
Bring the community together to form a sense of belonging
Provide a safe space to share innovative ideas and/or concerns, and
Recognize and celebrate various successes
In what ways can I achieve the GSC mission?
Achieving the GSC mission will require collaborative effort on everyone’s part. On my part, I intend to practice a compassionate and inclusive approach and be as transparent and communicative as I possibly can when addressing important issues or celebrating one another. I believe everyone has a part in GSC’s pathway to success, whether they are small or big contributions. Together, we rise!
